When you enable the SPAM Box feature SPAM Assassin automatically moves suspected SPAM e-mail in to this separate mail box.

This mail box is not automatically purged, and so will continue to grow.

However you can access this (and all other mail boxes) using IMAP (rather than POP) so that the mail stays on the server where you can delete it.
