During the October half – term, the youth team of the Mustard Tree mobilised themselves to provide a fantastic holiday activity programme. Its was perhaps the most rewarding Positive Activities for Young People (PAYP) that we have done. Without vision it’s a no – go!! |
This is a somewhat loose translation of a Biblical proverb, but over time it proves absolutely true. At the Mustard tree we regularly check that we are doing things to achieve our vision. This means that all our projects aim to help people, both practically and spiritually, to take their place as positive contributors to their community. A tall order you may think, but if you read Chris’s letter you will see what I mean. He was helped by many people from Dee Park and has in turn been volunteering and helping others. |

Introduction to The Mustard Tree |
|
In the differing cultures of the world there contains in ancient texts and parables many stories about trees and they are often used as symbols and to teach and explain many lessons and morals. One such story was told by Jesus of Nazareth who some say was a wise man, others a great teacher, and others the Son of God living on earth. His story gives an insight into what he said and taught the kingdom of God would be like when present of earth. In the book written by Luke, one of his followers, Jesus of Nazareth stated that the Kingdom of God
''Is like a grain of mustard seed which a man took and planted in his garden; and it grew and became a tree, and the birds of the air perched in its branches."
The Mustard Tree Foundation uses this story as an example of the support, impact and growth it looks to develop as it works amongst the poor, marginalized and needy within Reading and the UK.
Support and advocacy for those who need help, rest and a voice to join with their voice when they cannot be heard or speak for themselves. Impact with the words and love of Jesus Christ of Nazareth to see the grace of God develop, unite and transform community relationships. Growth as we hope, trust and perceiver to see the Kingdom of God increase on earth giving peace, joy and love to all who need it.
This initiave developed out of the community heart of a local church, called Tilehurst Free Church. Write Comment ( comments) |
